What Causes Burning Sensation On Tongue?

Question : I have had a burning stinging sensation on the top of my tongue for a week now. It is also a slight brown color. I thought I either burned it on wings or it was a possible allergic reaction to blowing up balloons for my daughter, but its not any better. Suggestions?
