Question : I went through REZUM process (steam application on prostate to open urethra passage, I think) just over two weeks ago. I am having great pain or burning sensation while urinating. I am already out of long term catheter. I am using disposable ones twice a day, before bed and at mid-night. I just started taking Phenazopyridine Hydrochloride, 95 mg, available over the counter, starting last night. I have gone through 3 dozes of 2 tablets each. It doesn't seem to help with the pain. Should I stop this drug? Is there anything else to help? I will be seeing the Eurologist on Monday, two days from now. Thanks.

Brief Answer:
Phennazopyridine needs to be continued for 2 more weeks .

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for your query, based on the facts that you have posted it appears that you have undergone Resum Water therapy treatment for BPH 2 weeks ago and getting severe pain while passing urine and been taking Phenazopyridine since 3 days .

Phenazopyridine is urinary tract analgesic and it helps to relieve pain in urinary passage .It takes at least a week to gse desired results .Hence I would suggest you too continue taking it

The pain following Resum Therapy is mostly due to infection resulting from necrosis of the cells in prostate .

Get urine culture done to trace out organisms causing infection so that you can take appropriate antibiotic as per culture report .

In the mean while you can take Diclofenac twice daily in addition to Phenazopyridine .It will help to reduce the severity of pain .

Hope I have answered your query ,please feel free to ask if you have more questions ,I shall be happy to help you
Thanks and Regards.
