Brief Answer:
Sudden vomiting blood is usually by food poisoning or viral gastroenteritis

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,
Thanks for writing in to us.

I have read through your query in detail.
A calcified foci in the chest X ray is usually a healed infection that might have happened months to years back. This is not a concern if it has become healed and is seen as a calcified granuloma.

It is important to know what were the circumstances under which your son vomited blood.

(i) Is he having cough, fever and weakness with weight loss for the last two months? If yes then it is important to observe his health closely and if required then detailed specific tests for infective conditions including TB needs to be done.

I find that Mantoux test (for TB) has been done and the result will be read after 48 hours. We have to wait for this result.

(ii) Did he have any stomach infection or sore throat? This can also cause vomiting of blood due to either gastric irritation or injury to the throat leading to bleeding.

The commonest causes of sudden vomiting blood in children is food poisoning and viral gastroenteritis.

As ultrasound scan is normal, any serious concern involving his abdomen organs is less likely.

Right now please give good healthy food to your son and lots of water and juices. Do not force feed him but give him small amounts to eat at frequent intervals. Medications if any are to be given under supervision of your doctor.

You have to discuss the Mantoux test findings when they are available. If mantoux test is positive then he might require detailed investigation.

Hope this answers your question. Please feel free to correct any oversight in my interpretation of your problems and discuss them in detail as per your requirements.

Hope your query is answered.

Brief Answer:
Please get complete blood hemogram and peripheral blood smear test done

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,
Thanks for writing back with an update.

We have to wait for some more time before saying that Mantoux test is negative.
I went through your sons blood test reports and found only bleeding time, clotting time and platelet count test result which are normal.

If possible please get complete blood hemogram including peripheral blood smear done. This is a test done to check all parameters of blood and doing it will be useful even if the result is normal. It will pick up any other condition in blood if it is there. This is like getting a total blood check and is recommended.

Hope your query is answered.
Do write back if you have any doubts.

Regards,
Dr.Vivek
