Calcinosis cutis and its management options
Detailed Answer:
Hello. Thank you for writing to us
I have read your question and I am glad to answer your query.
Calcium deposits in the skin and subcutaneous tissue, also known as calcinosis cutis, can have a multitude of causes.
Classically, autoimmune disorders like dermatomyosistis and localised scleroderma are causes that are known to be associated with calcinosis cutis. These conditions usually present with widespread calcium deposits on areas like extensor joints as hard/ firm, sometimes painful nodules.
Other causes include sarcoidosis, hyperparathyroidism, excess vitamin D intake, malignancy etc
Treatment options include oral diltiazem, and magnesium and aluminium antacids, diphosphonates like alendronate and risedronate etc, surgical excision etc
Regards
