What Causes Cervical Cancer With History Of Cone Biopsy?

default
Posted on Mon, 13 Jul 2015
Question: I am 47 yrs old and I had a cone biopsy about 15 years ago. I have just found out I have cervical cancer and have to have a modified radical hysterectomy. Could this be a reoccurring problem from 15 years ago. Really scared....

Brief Answer:
What were the reasons and results of the cone biopsy then?

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about this diagnosis of cervical cancer. if it is in its early stages, then you are very lucky as surgery would essentially be all that is required for full treatment. DO you have an idea of the stage of the disease the doctor mentioned to you?

It is difficult to tell whether this is related to the cone biopsy you have 15years ago as we need more information on the reasons for the cone biopsy back then and the stage of the disease at this time. If the disease is far advanced, then it could have been due to poor follow up. When was the last time you had a pap smear done?

I understand your fears. No one hears cancer and pretends like all is okay. However, I pray it turns out to be an early state disease so that complete cure can be guaranteed with minimal side effects.

I hope this helps. I wish you well. Thanks for using our services and do feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be.

Thank you so much for your quick response. My cone biopsy was for pre cancerous cells and had pap done every year since then and all has been normal until now. He did say that it was endo_____ (which I believe means the inside of the cervix) and said he felt like it was caught early. Also they want to do a modified radical hysterectomy which I do have scheduled for July 15. May have to do some radiation afterwards but would not know until after surgery. Also I have to have a CT scan done before surgery so they will know exactly where it is contained.

Brief Answer:
Thanks for the updates!

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you so much for the updates. If this was caught early and you have been doing pap smears every year, then it is unlikely to have been related to what happened 15years ago.

Like he mentioned, surgery would provide the basis for the complete understanding of the extend of the disease and whether there will be need for further investigation and treatment or not. However, the odds are more in favor of complete cure than need for additional chemotherapy.

I hope this helps. I wish you the best of surgery and outcome. As usual, am here and alway happy and available to address any concerns you may have.
