default
Posted on Fri, 2 Jan 2015
Question: The other day I experienced chest pressure and tightening while sitting for about three minutes. Drank water and symptoms disappeared after a few minutes. I was feeling very stressed at moment. Following episode had hot/cold flashes and then shakes. I am 43 yom with history of anxiety but no cardiac issues or family history. Does this appear serious. Since that time have resumed as normal but have fear in back of mind.

Brief Answer:
cardiac evaluation should be done

Detailed Answer:
Hi, I am Dr Mittal. I have read your query. I think I would be able to help you.

The symptoms of the query are quite suggestive of angina like symptoms. I would ideally suggest the you have a complete cardiac evaluation. The evaluation would include stress echocardiography and If needed coronary angiography.

The symptoms of angina come and go. So its better to be sure. Other conditions like gastritis may mimic the syndrome but they are not life threatening.

In short, yes I am little concerned about the symptoms you reported. Recommend you to see your local physician.

I hope that the information helps you. Please feel free to contact us for more information. Best of luck. Dr Mittal.

Are you saying you are a little concerned or little concerned?

I've had normal stress test 2 years ago and 3 normal EKG since.

Pain went away after 3 min and did not return. How helpful would elg be now?

Likelihood of anxiety attack?

Brief Answer:
Testing is better

Detailed Answer:
I am concerned about the symptoms. Two years is a long time & you can develop lesion in the time.

Better to do the tests specially since ekg may be normal in angina.
I am not ruling out other causes like anxiety and gastritis. but they are not life threatening. A cardiac lesion is potentially life threatening. So it needs to be ruled out.
Ekg as i said, may not be helpful at all in angina. And angina are typically short duration pain.

Please feel free to contact me for further information.
