What Causes Chills After Taking Augmentin And Rocephin?

default
Posted on Thu, 16 Feb 2017
Question: My husband was bitten by my cat. The site of his infection has gotten worse (redness and swelling). He was given a course of Augmentin (oral tablets) yesterday. Symptoms worsened today. He was given an IM injection of rocephin about 2 hours ago. He is now having chills. He has no known allergies to either medicine. Should he be going to the ER for the chills, or is this symptom consistent with what to expect from a rocephin injection?

Brief Answer:
Not an expected side effect of the antibiotics

Detailed Answer:
Hi and welcome to HCM.

Well, this is not expected side effect of antibiotics and this may be sign of infection progress and bacteriemia.

I'd suggest not to wait any more and please visit ER and consider hospitalization and intravenous antibiotic administration if blood tests show elevated inflammatory markers.

Cat bites can be very serious and some resistant bacteria may enter the wound.

Please keep me posted how he stays later on.
Wish you a good health.
Regards
