Posted on Wed, 29 Apr 2015
Question: I have a 17 year old daughter that has chronic pain from a ball hitting her in the left side a few years ago, it seems that her rib was dislocated and would work itself back into place and then pop out again, she now has chronic back and side pain that radiates to her neck and she is having HA that last up to days. her periods have never been on track and has been taking birth control pills for about 6 months, her periods at this time are about 1 and half to two weeks long each month where as before pills were up to three weeks. She also has joint pain and is not sleeping well.

I would need some info from you

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Welcome to Health Care Magic.

I am Dr.Muhammad Ahmad, I have read your question in detail, I understand your concern and will try to help you in the best possible way.

In order to help you better , I would like you to give me some more information,

I also have to consider other causes of the issue because ball hit can not be going for so long and can not be complicating things this way.

I will here by ask you some relevant questions to fill up the information gap.

1) Did she get her complete blood works done?

2) How was her TSH and hemoglobin ?

3) Can you see any thing wrong in the area of ball hit?

4) Did she get her hormones and other reason of disturbed periods checked by GynObs?

5) Has she ever got ultrasound abdomen pelvis done? did it show any thing?

6) Any weight changes lately?

7 ) Does she eat well?

Waiting for your input

Regards.

She has had many labs including rheumatoid labs which show only that she was low on vitamin d. We do have an ultrasound scheduled next week. She has body aches and chills at night with no fever that has started few weeks ago. No weight changes. She is a vegan and watches what she eats. She fIxes her meals weekly and eats better than she ever did before. Limiting sugar as well. She had not been to an ob/gun nor a pediatrician.

Brief Answer:
It can be controlled you need some consults too

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thanks for writing back,

Her symptoms suggest three things

1) Thyroid issues.

2) Vitamine D defficiency.

3) Hormonal issues.

I would like you to maske sure her thyroid profile was fine, check her records for thyroid.

If thats fine then it must be vitamin D defficency,

You are suggested to start her with vitamin D supplementation along with calcium supplementation.

You can use Centrum for women for her with calcium vitamin D medium dose pills she will feel fine in a couple of week or so.

Do visit a gynae for checkup of hormonal issues and also discuss with her about meeting an endocrinologist.

She has to maintain her protein intake give her red bean salade regularly.

I believe her problems will settle with calcium vitamn D supplementaton in a couple of weeks , kee calm and keep motivating her to take supplement regularly.

I Hope this answers your question, if your have more queries feel free to ask, otherwise close the discussion and rate it. Wish you the best of health.

Regards,

Dr.Muhammad Ahmad.

Brief Answer:
A diagnosis has to be made,

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Yes she is having irregular periods in this age this is not a good sign, she should follow this up,

I would suggest you not to get U/S by yourself just get her to a good Ob&Gyn and discuss the investigations and examination which should be done on her,

There must be some reason her blood works if clean mean some thing else has to be done, some hormone has to be checked or some other problem,

Also discuss with your gynae obs if an ultrasound is required or there are other tests too which can help,

Discuss the need or an endocrinologist in this case.

Let's nip the evil in the bud , she is young she can not live her life fighting to get regular periods and taking contraceptives her whole life, or even if she is destined to do so atleast there should be a proper diagnosis.

Also keep a check that she is eating well enough and not eating over cautiously,

Till you get to the doctor, give her Centrum for women it will replenish if anything is missing in her food.

I hope things will get soon and in my opinion if a good diagnosis is made she will recover in a month or two.

Wishing her the best of health.

Regards
