What Causes Chronic Diarrhea, Swollen Stomach And Gas When Diagnosed With HIV?

default
Posted on Tue, 4 Aug 2015
Question: I have HIV! I have had chronic diarrhea for sometime now! My doctor said to take loperamide twice a day and that was kind of working for a while but my stool would come out thin and still not totally solid and it would be a yellowish color! Now even taking the loperamide twice a day I have yellowish floating pudding nasty smelling stool and no getting anywhere near normal! My stomach seems swollen and gassy!
What do you think the problem may be?

I also have a clear thick mucus stuff that has been coming out when I try to go when I feel like I haven't fully relieved myself!

Brief Answer:
Have you ever had surgery of the gall bladder?

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about this diarrhea that you have reported. HIV might seems to be taking away attention from the likely cause of this diarrhea. The nature of the stools which floats an gassy makes a case for fats indigestion. The liver and gall bladder are very important in the proper digestion of fats. I will say, if you have had any surgery to these organs before, then this is the most likely cause. Even if you have not done so before, I will still lean on this.

The firs approach will be to limit the amount of fats and oil in your diet. If this is the cause of your symptoms, then then shall regress. If this fails to happen, I will suggest you get stool examination for possible causes of maldigestion and malabsorption. And finally, a stool culture to identify any possible germs.

I hope this helps. I wish you well. Thanks for using our services and do feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be. Keep me updated about your progress.
