What Causes Chronic Drainage From Incision After Morton's Neuroma Removal?

default
Posted on Wed, 30 Sep 2015
Question: I had a Mortons Neuroma removed two months ago between toe 3&4. The incision has healed except a small hole in the incision. The hole drains constantly. My Orthopedic surgeon has cleaned and resewed the hole three times with another coming this week. I have another neuroma between 2&3, but no surgery until the first incision heals. I am on a three week antibiotic RX (Sulfamethoxazole - Bactrim). I am taking Hydrocodone daily to give me some relief. Do you have a response that you could share with me?

Brief Answer:
Debridement and suturing is the best way.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
The chronic drainage in the incision site is due to a chronic inflammation in the area. Cleaning and deep debridement of the area followed by secondary suturing is the best way to get it healed. Do continue with the antibiotic. Do get a culture sensitivity of the fluid done to see which antibiotic will be best for you. Regular heat application in the area will also help in reducing inflammation.
I hope this answers your query.
