What Causes Chronic Stomach Cramps And Nausea After Taking Vitamin Supplements?

default
Posted on Wed, 19 Apr 2023
Question: For the last week my husband has been having chronic stomach cramping daily. It started last Saturday after taking a usual dose of vitamins: 1 MyKind organics men's multi-vitamin, 3 lemon balms, 1 garlic, 2 MSM pills, 1 turmeric with bioperine, 1-2 L-syine. I've done this regime of pills for years, but the last week has been horrible. I'm just now thinking that it might be my vitamins. I drink a smoothie most mornings and first thought maybe it was bad milk (last Wednesday), then I eliminated that and then I thought it was the oatmeal in the smoothie, then I just skipped the smoothie and had leftover pizza (but still my vitamins) when it happened again (usually within 1 hour) I had severe abdominal cramping I thought it might be the vitamins. Today I decided to spilt the supplements in half, this morning I took the multi, the garlic, 1 of the MSM and the l-syine and nothing. Tonight I took the other MSM, 1 turmeric and the three lemon balms
Now he is still in severe pain!! He feels nausea and severe cramping
Thoughts???

Brief Answer:
Could be due to electrolyte imbalance.

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

It seems that somehow your husband could have developed an electrolyte imbalance and that could be responsible for the cramps. I would insist him to take juicy fruits like citrus fruits. They contain plenty of potassium which should help in the proper functioning of the muscles and in the reduction of the cramps. You also need to increase his total fluid (water) intake and ask him to take plenty of ORS (oral rehydration solution) to replenish the lost fluids and salts.

Another possibility is a gastrointestinal infection. A clinical examination would be needed. Taking Decolic tablet may help.

Hope I have answered your query.
