Question: I have had clay colored pencil thin stools for 2 weeks should I be concerned?

The cymbolta has really helped the pain in my hands and feet I would hate to give it up unless it is hurting me or my liver…I I did take Miralax but of course quit it when my problem started. Now along with the large stools which are several a day. brown. When I wipe myself is yellow light brown. It doesn't seem to matter what I eat. Normal or the brat diet. Hope this helpsMy question is the 3rd of August I am having carpel tunnel surgery. Should I consul this or go ahead with it.

Brief Answer:
Your medicine is probably leading to liver damage.

Detailed Answer:
Hello Mam.
Good to know that you are in great health.
The clay colored stools are most likely due to the liver damage caused by the Cymbalta medicine. It has a propensity for liver damage.
I suggest you get a Liver function test done or get your GP to prescribe you one. This simple blood test will tell us whether the drug is adversely affecting your liver. Then we can decide what is to be done.
Meanwhile I suggest you stop this medication and see. You could ask your prescrbing Doctor to suggest some other medicine in lieu which would he safer for the liver.
Do let me know the reports as and when you get them.
Take care.

Brief Answer:
That is good news. Keep off medication for a month.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

That is very good news. But I presume you made the drug change (stopping cymbalta) after talking to your doctor.

I would like to monitor the stool formation for a month while you are off medication. Your symptoms should get relieved and then we can decide whether you can restart the medication.
There is nothing else that you need to do other than rest and a healthy diet with less of proteins and more of carbohydrates.
Take care.
