Question : I have a drainage from my anus, clear liquid normally. What causes it and how can I stop it

Thanks for your query.
What I could get from your query is that you have got a drainage of clear liquid from the anus- you have consulted a Doctor who says this is not serious and caused discomfort - No medications tried - wants to know the causes and to know how to stop it...

The causes of the clear discharge form the anus can be:
-Proctitis or Procto-colitis, meaning inflammation of the rectum and or colon.
-Laxity of the anal sphincter.
-Polyp or a mass in the rectum or anal canal.

I would advise in such a patient the following:
-Per-rectal digital (finger)examination by a Surgeon to asses any disease in the anal canal or rectum; to know the tone of the anal sphincter.
-Ano-proctoscopy to visualize for any mass or ulcer and to take a biopsy if required.
-Colonoscopy to rule out any pathology in the large bowel.
-If some positive findings- CT scan of the whole abdomen and pelvis.

These examinations would help us to get the correct reason for the symptoms and get a treatment accordingly.
