Question: Hello, I just recently had protected sex with a condom with my boyfriend about a week ago. Just recently, I begin having clitoral irritation, clumpy white discharge, and sharp pains in that area as well. I am not sure if I have a yeast infection, but I am concerned and hope that I am not pregnant because I did have protected sex, and I hope that I do not have an STD.

Brief Answer:
Suggestive of vaginal candidiasis (yeast infection)

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Welcome to HCM.
I have gone through your problem, apparently you have vaginal infection caused by fungus candida (yeast).
Since you had a protected sex, there is no chance of pregnancy.
Such type of yeast infection in general is not a sexually transmitted infection.

The possible factors could be the recent use of antibiotics (they lower the amount of lactobacillus, or good bacteria, in vagina), diabetes, weak immune system, poor eating habits, including a lot of sugary foods, hormonal imbalance near your menstrual cycle or stress.

The following medications are effective in the treatment of vaginal yeast infection:

Fluconazole as a single oral dose or Antifungal creams containing Clotrimazole or Miconazole which are to be applied to the affected area 2 times daily for 3 days.

Besides the medications, keep the affected area dry and clean, avoid using scented soaps or shampoos which may irritate the vagina, use loose cotton undergarments.

Hope these suggestions could be useful to in eradicating the fungal infection.
Regards.

I took your advice, and immediately took not only an antibiotic but applied Clotrimazole to the irritated area as well, however, the pain and discomfort has magnified near my clitoris area, and my labia minora are becoming very irritated as well to the point that they are dry and sticking to my underwear. Should I make an appointment with my OB/GYN immediately?

Brief Answer:
You may please consult a gynecologist.

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for your kindly reply.

It seems there is no response to antifungal cream even after 2-3 days of treatment, hence you may please visit a gynecologist for proper clinical examination and an appropriate treatment.

Wishing you a good health.,
