What Causes Clogged Ear And Lump Near The Temple?

default
Posted on Fri, 16 May 2014
Question: My left ear started feeling like it was clogged, as if I had just got out of the pool. It got to where I could barely hear. Then about 30 minutes later I noticed a soft painless lump near my left temple. A few hours later my ear was fine and I could hear out of it. The lump is still there though. What could this possibly be?

Brief Answer:
It's most likley a LymphNode

Detailed Answer:
Hi there XXXXXXX Thanks for coming to HealthCareMagic. From the description you;ve given me, the lump near your left temple is a swollen 'LymphNodule'.

Lymph nodes are like filters, they catch inflammation and infections in the surrounding tissues and they store white blood cells.

Think of them as a police station in a small suburb. When things are quite there will be a a few cops in there and they won't be doing much. The lymphnode will be 'quiescant' or quiet. It's always been there, has just been quiet all this time.

Now your ear got clogged and inflamed. All that junk got sent to the lymphnode and the cops multiplied and the police station got bigger. Now this 'Active Lymph node is the first line of defense against the infection coming from the ear.

So that's how the system works. The LN should quiet down again in a few weeks on it's own. If it doesn't or if it gets bigger or very painful.. it itself may need removal. So show it to your doctor the next time you go.

I hope this helps. Feel Free to follow up
