What Causes Cloudy Urine While On Bactrim For UTI?

default
Posted on Tue, 16 Aug 2016
Question: I've been diagnosed as having a urinary tract infection. I went to the emergency room with blood in my urine. The doctor put me on Bactrim. I have been feeling better, but have now noticed that I have cloudy urine. Can Bactrim cause this, or is the infection still causing this? I've been on the antibiotic now for 3 days. Is it time to go back to the Dr. or should I wait for a couple more days?

Brief Answer:
waiting sounds like a good idea

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

since you've noticed clinical improvement, waiting sounds like a good idea! Cloudy urine can be caused by bacteria, urogenital tract secretions, crystals, etc. Bactrim may cause cloudy urine sometimes. Since you're feeling better it's doubtful that your urine contain more bacteria than before. I suggest waiting to see how it goes. Treatment with bactrim should continue for at least 7-10 days. If you haven't done any radiological test, then you should. You can start with an ultrasound scan of the kidneys and ureters to check for signs of obstruction.

I hope it helps!
Kind Regards!
