Question: I am freezing cold all the time. My thyroid is normal. I have RA and lupus. Is this a side effect and I have to live with it?

Have you checked only TSH or both TSH and Free T4.

It is quite likely that your thyroid is normal because the most commonly ordered test for this condition is TSH which is a fairly reliable test. So if the TSH is normal there is a very good chance that your thyroid is working fine.

However there is a rare condition called 'Secondary hypothyroidism' in which the TSH can be on the lower side of normal. So it may well appear normal but unless the Free T4 is checked, it is possible to miss the diagnosis.

This type of hypothyroidism ( ie an under-active thyroid ) can cause cold intolerance too.
