What Causes Constant Cramp Like Feeling In Calf?
Some tests are needed to establish the cause
Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXX!
Thank you for your question on HCM!
Regarding your concern, your symptoms seem to be related to a muscular contraction ij this region or a ligament misalignment.
Do you have other symptoms like:swelling, difficulty with walking?
Weight loss is usually related to a chronic inflammatory disorder, or to a tumor .
But the symptoms that you describe do not match with these diagnosis.
I recommend contacting with the GP for a careful physical examination ,a routine blood test for inflammation, blood electrolytes ,ac.uric and calcium plasma levels and a calf x ray, to search for the cause.
If all the above tests result normal, the most probable diagnosis would be a musculoskeletal mechanical pain.
In this case, physical activity and stretching would be helpful.
Hope to have been helpful to you !
Feel free to ask any other questions whenever you need!
Greetings! Dr. Iliri
I also have paetaller mal tracking and chrondomalaia could this cause the pain ? I'm starting pt this week.
Physiotherapy would be very helpful to you
Detailed Answer:
Hello again XXXX!
I would like to explain that the muscles are grouped into compartments, surrounded by fibrous tissue and attached to the bones.
A weight increase or fluid retention can lead to increased pressure in these compartments, causing stiffness and cramp like feeling.
So a weight loss would help relieve the tightness feeling.
Other triggering factors are walking on high heels, standing up for long periods during day, straining physical activity, etc.
The patellar mal tracking is another factor contributing to your symptomatology. It can modify your way of walking causing stiffness above and below the patella.
Physiotherapy is the best way to treat your problem.
I would also advise you to avoid high heels and use orthopaedic shoes. A heel support may be helpful too.
Regarding the patellar mal tracking I would advise you to consult with your attending physician for the possibility of arthroscopy to treat it.
Hope to have been of helpful!
Best wishes,
Dr. Iliri
