Question : Hello. For several months I've experienced discomfort/soreness around my right shoulder and upper bicep whenever I extend my arm upwards or toward the back. The soreness subsides when I return my arm down. I also have it upon awakening, and cannot sleep on my right side if I am pressing against my shoulder or upper bicep. Is this a strain? Tylenol helps it, but it just returns.
Brief Answer:
It’s a strain!
Detailed Answer:
Hi and thanks so much for this query.
I have reviewed your information fully and his is suggestive of a strain. I recommend that in addition to tylenol, you try to limit these movements as much as possible. If you exercise at gym, especially doing weight lifting, I will suggest that you suspend that. This will allow for proper and full healing before you return to these activities and movements.
I hope this guides and helps. I wish you well. Feel free to follow up with me if need be.

Thank you. How are the symptoms of a strain different from those of rotator cuff tendinitis? My doctor wants me to have an MRI.
Brief Answer:
An MRI would be helpful!
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
There is little difference between the symptoms. They all manifest with pain. The difference would be where it hurst most and what movements provoke that. For that, examination and testing would make a big difference.
In any case, management strategies of rest and pain medications remain same.
