default
Posted on Fri, 4 Sep 2015
Question: Hi. I'm a 41 yr old female. Never had thyroid prob before. The past yr I have had significant fatigue with joint pains.
My doc ordered 3rd gen tsh in XXXXXXX 2015= 5.270 with t4 0.82.
In XXXXXXX 2011 tsh 3rd gen level was 2.970 and in XXXXXXX 2012 level was 1.960.
Could my newest result of 5.270 in XXXXXXX cause my symptoms?
Why won't my doctor treat me with medicine?
Gained 30 lbs. could this level be why?
I have to go for another test in a few days.
Just curious what your thoughts are.
Ty so kindly.

Brief Answer:
probably not the cause

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXXXX

Few doctors treat patients with such a low TSH level unless other conditions apply like antithyroid antibodies and thyroiditis for example.

Fatigue is a common complaint in hypothyroidism but it's also a common complaint in general! Anemia is another common cause particularly for women at a reproductive age because of the menses.

So you would need further testing to determine the cause like a compete blood count, urea, creatinine, electrolytes, liver enzymes and free T4.

I hope you find my comments helpful!

Kind regards!

Thank you so much for your answer. What would cause significant joint pain in someone my age? I feel 80 when the symptoms are really bad.
My face turns red when this happens and i feel so fatigued with little energy
Any thoughts?

Brief Answer:
autoimmune disorders have to be ruled out

Detailed Answer:
Joint pain and stiffness particularly after awakening are common in various autoimmune disorders. Your doctor should examine your joints for objective findings of inflammation and perhaps order specific tests.

Kind regards!
