Brief Answer:
It allows to identify the bacteria.

Detailed Answer:
Urine culture test is a special urine test where they incubate the urine. After 3 days they are able to tell if, how many and what kind of bacteria are present in the urine.
If bacteria is identified, they also check which antibiotic is the most effective against this bacteria.

Doctor considering my age etc.. Do you think its anything serious?
doctor
Answered by Dr. Grzegorz Stanko (1 minute later)
Brief Answer:
I do not think this is serious.

Detailed Answer:
I do not thing this is serious. Prostate cancer (most serious problem) does not appear at your age. Infection is the most probable reason.
You should also check glucose level in your blood. Diabetes can be the reason of frequent urinating as well.

I had a complete blood test 3 months ago, it checked funcationality of organs, blood count etc.. It came back fine. My gp dip sticked my urine sample last wee which was also clear. I suffer from ibs and also anxiety and depresion. Do you think that could have something to do with it? I stopped taking my anti depresents (citalipram) over 5 weeks ago without consulting my doctor. Could this have something to do with it?

Brief Answer:
Regular urine analysis is necessary.

Detailed Answer:
Complete blood test does not give information about all organs in the body. You can not treat it as a complete checkup. There is a lot of diseases which wont give any changes in the blood work.
Dip stick urine test is a mistake. It gives lots of false negative results. So you should not accept its result especially that your symptoms indicate an infection.
I suggest you to have regular urine analysis in the laboratory.

IBS, depression or anxiety have nothing to do with urinating problem.

How many times to urinate a dayis normal?
doctor
Answered by Dr. Grzegorz Stanko (12 hours later)
Brief Answer:
There is no specific norm of that.

Detailed Answer:
There is no specific norm of that. More you drink, more often you urinate.
However, if you have not increased fluids intake, and you urinate like every 30 minutes or you have to urinate couple of times during the night, we can say its frequent urinating.
