What Causes Constant Watering Eyes, Runny Nose And Sneezing After Exercise?

Question: I am 33 years old, female and i have a hard time working out. I am 5'6.5" tall and 140 lbs. I have stopped working out for 2 years now because i have athletes asthma. I've been told by a Respiratory doctor that i do have athletes asthma. But whenever i researched it people described different symthoms then i have. When i start to run or do any cardio type workouts within 20 minutes i start feeling my eyes water perfusly, nose running like a faucet and constant sneezing. I haven't read these types of sympthoms from other people so i don't know what to think. I was given an inhaler to take to see if it helps but i hate being a ginny pig so i don't take the inhaler cus i don't really have any asthma attacks. My watery eyes, runny nose and sneezing lasts for 3 days straight. I am out of commission to live a normal life for those 3 days. This basically prevents me from wanting to do any type of working out because im too scared my sympthoms will occur and can't do anything for 3 days.

Im really in distress and am so irritated with this type of asthma. My last test i have to do is to go on a treadmill with an oxygen mask and start to run on the treadmill so they can track my oxygen levels (what i'm told that i have left of my tests).

is there anything you can do to help me? do i have to wait for that last test in order to learn any information regarding my issue?

I hope you can help me. Remember, i have been having this issue for 2 years now and affects my way of living. I used to work out everyday, cardio was my favorite, now that is one thing i have to avoid in order not to experience my sympthoms.

Please note i have been to an allergist and they said all i am alergic to is mold (common amungst ppl). They did an enviromental allergy test and mold was the only factor. I also went to a sinus specialist and they put a camera down my throat and they said my sinuses are perfectly normal.

i hope you can help.

Brief Answer:
Get done serotonin and histamine levels.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your question on Health Care Magic.
I can understand your concern.
Your problem is genuine. It can be due to high levels of serotonin and histamine.
Exercise cause stress on the body and release of these mediators which are responsible for these symptoms.
So better to get done serotonin and histamine levels.
You are talking about which test that is left.
Please let me know this, so that I can guide you better.
I will be happy to help you further.
Wish you good health. Thanks.

The test that is left to do is the one where the doctor puts me on a treadmill and I have to run n they have a breathing apparatus so they can check my oxygen levels.

So I don't understand about the serotonin n histamine levels. Are you saying I should get tests done to see if it's normal or are you saying I need inhalers that have serotonin n histamine in them. Also if I go get tests done for my serotonin n histamine levels if they are too high what do I do then and if they are too low what do I do then?
Do u know anything about that treadmill running test that they will have me do? I'm on a waiting list n can take up to a year just to do that test. what alternative actions can I take to find something that works n prevents the athletes asthma?

Brief Answer:
Serotonin and histamine levels will be high in your case.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your follow up question on HCM.
I can understand your concern.
Serotonin and histamine levels will be high in your case,if they are the culprit.
But if they are normal than forget about allergic etiology.
In your case both are mostly high.
This indicates allergic inflammation induced symptoms.
If they are high than you need medicines against them.
And yes, trademil test is necessary in your case. So get it done.
Sorry to say but there is no alternative to it.
Please let me know
1. Have you ever undergone serum IgE level?
2. Are you having stressful life?
Please reply me answers of above asked questions, so that I can guide you better.
I will be happy to help you further.
Wish you good health.
Thanks.

Thank you for your response.
Ok I will go get my Serotonin and Histamine levels checked.
I did do a few blood tests and am awaiting results but i'm uncertain if Serum IgE was one of them.
Yes i do have stress in my life, quite a bit and have been put on antidepressants specifically Burpropion 150mg but only have started them 1 month ago and my asthma issue started 2 years ago so not sure if it's related.

If my histimine and serotonine levels are too high what type of meds do you think the doctor will prescribe me just so i am aware?

If my levels are low what actions will be required then?

The syptoms i have expressed to you would you say it is known as athletes asthma or something else?

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your follow up question on HCM.
It is not exercise induced asthma. It is more of exercise induced inflammation.
And if your serotonin and histamine levels are high than you need selective serotonin uptake inhibitors, anti inflammatory and anti histamine drugs.
All these are prescribed medicines, so you need to consult doctor for these.
Please let me know
1. Are you absolutely asymptomatic when not doing exercise?
2. After starting exercise, how much time it takes to develop symptoms?
3. Do your symptoms subside after stopping of exercise?
4. How much time does it take to subside symptoms?
Please reply me answers of above asked questions, so that I can guide you better.
I will be happy to help you further.
Wish you good health. Thanks.
