What Causes Constipation And Pain After Defecation?

default
Posted on Sat, 10 May 2014
Question: I have been having a tightness in my stomach the last few days. I exercise regularly and eat a healthy diet. I was dealing with constipation so i increased the fiber in my diet and things are much better. After my bowel movement in the morning i will go exercise and when i am done i will feel the urge to go again when I do it is just yellow liquid and little pieces of stool. This second bowel movement also comes with alot of straining and I am just wondering why my first bowel movement is not complete. Could I still be a little constipated even though I am having normal bowel movements? Could I have possibly tore a muscle in stomach? I had a colonscopy performed two to three weeks ago they found a anal fissure and a couple internal hemorrhoids. I have been using hemorrhoid suppositories. I do not want to use laxatives at all. I do not think I am constipated anymore but I do have pain in my stomach. When I wake up in the morning the pain is not there but as soon as i have a bowel movement i can feel the pain in the stomach.

Brief Answer: IBS or Descending Perineal Syndrome. Detailed Answer: Hi. Read the history provided by you very carefully. These are classical symptoms First of all let me be very clear that there are no torn muscles in the stomach as they will lead to a constant pain. Be assured about this. Secondly your Colonoscopy is showing anal fissure and internal hemorrhoids have developed due to straining. These are secondary to your basic problem. The problem you are having is most probably a irritable bowel syndrome in its constipating form. You get the urge even after having a motion and the pain is after you pass the first motion. You have mentioned in the last - that now you do not think that you are constipated. Many times this becomes a habit to want to have another motion and is a part of the syndrome I suggested. That is why you get just yellow liquid and a small stool. Do not take the laxatives if you are not constipated. Suggested Treatment: Have regular Sitz Bath (sitting in a tub filled with warm water) to soothe the area and improve the local circulation to heal the fissure and reduce the hemorrhoids. Once your problem is solved the fissure and hemorrhoids will automatically heal- NO straining - no problems. Avoid all the foods and beverages which you might have noticed that they increase this problem. You may need a medicine like Librax or Equirex, but I am afraid you need a prescription of a Doctor to get these from the the pharmacy. These will help you a lot to get rid of your present problem. Please discuss this with your Doctor to get a proper prescription. Just to have technical description- this is also called a '' descending perineal syndrome'' fits well as per your history. The treatment remains the same. You might have noticed that there may be few days in between which are symptoms-less. Also that such problems might trouble you when there is more stress or strain on mind. It is food that you have already started exercises and healthy diet. Meditation may sometimes really help well in such a condition that you have described. I hope you have already undergone an Ultrasonography to rule out other problems and to see the condition of the prostate. Please feel free to ask more if you have further queries and want more clarification
