Brief Answer:
Plenty of fluids, Bulk will help

Detailed Answer:
Hi.Thanks for your query.

Diarrhoea is normally followed by apparent constipation (not obstruction) and the bowel restores its normal function over next 1week to days.

If you are able to pass gas/flatus then there is no need to worry. All I would suggest is to have plenty of oral fluids, bulk(fruits, vegetables, peas, cereals-rich in fibre). This will restore and bring normal motility quickly.

Take Tab.Rabeprazole 20mg half an hour before breakfast everyday for fifteen days. This will reduce your gastric distress. It is available over the counter.

If you are not able to pass gas the I were to suggest to consult a physician as early as possible.

Hope this answers your query.

to clarify, the bowel movement that didn't happen for a whole week after initial diarrhea was difficult and nausea/vomiting were associated with that one movement. i felt ok after that for the next week, but still only went twice in that 7 days.

Brief Answer:
You will definitely have your regular movements back

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your quick revert.

2 movements over I week is pretty good especially if the diarrhoea was moderate to severe intensity which evacuate your bowel contents.Your regular movements will be back if you could modify your diet as discussed earlier.

Avoid fatty, oily, hot and spicy food for next one to two weeks and I am sure everything will be okay.Get well soon.Walking for half an hour per day will also help.

Nothing to worry.Good luck!
