Question : Hello Doctor, I am wondering what is going on with my body! I am a 26 y/o female, my period started the last week of December and it has not stopped. I am on the generic birth control pill and have been for many years. I tried doubling my dose for a few days to get the bleeding to stop but it hasn’t worked. Also in this time, my breasts have grown significantly, I’ve gone up 2 full cup sizes. I am not sexually active, and have a clean XXXXXXX of health sti-wise. What is going on??
Brief Answer:
Likely the effect of the pills.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
I have gone through your question and understand the concerns.
Sometimes, on birth control pills, when taken regularly for a long time can lead to irregular spotting and bleeding due to hormonal disturbance.
Increase in the breast size is due the breast engorgement by the Progesterone hormone in the pills.
I will suggest you to consult an OBGYN specialist for proper examination to rule out any local lesions in the cervix or vagina, get an ultrasound done and get further treatment accordingly.
Hope you found the answer helpful.
