Question : Hi, my issue started with a cough and congestion. After about a week.. I saw a dr for it. I got an antibiotic and steroid injection and a does of tapered steroids . I did start to get better. On Sat I competed in a crossfit competition and coughed a lot after the vigorous workouts. I am now experiencing sharp pain the the left side of my chest upon coughing and a bit of chest burning! Help! What could this be!!

                                    Brief Answer:
Bronchitis with pnuemonitis.
Detailed Answer:
Welcome to HCM: Sorry to hear about your issue. Please note that you competed and probably still had tight bronchioles from your congestion and cough, you then strained the supply and had to forcefully inhale cool air that further irritated your airways leading to pneumonitis or inflammation of your lungs/bronchioles worsened by the coughing, the coughing by the way might produce blood tinged sputum or saliva, not to worry. I would take a cough suppressant and this will stop the painful coughs that you have. Good luck and take care.

                                    Brief Answer:
The burning is related to the cough, so you essentially have a raw area
Detailed Answer:
this will stay this way until it heals, try some menthol cough drops, those give some relief. No you do not need to worry, give it some time.

I haven't coughed much today but when I do, wow it's painful on that left side! The burning is in the anterior chest it literally almost felt like I rubbed my chest with something like icy hot! I guess I'm just a little scared. I am a CT technologist and see too much! I've never had something like this happen

                                    Brief Answer:
Do you have acid reflux by any chance, some of this sounds like it..
Detailed Answer:
yes, the more you know medically the more one worries, trust me that happens to the best of us. Cardiac chest pain would be constant and not really provoked by coughing, so rest easy.
