Question: I have had a cold for about a week. no fever or chest pain. coughing is the main factor. seems like it should have resided sooner.still coughing. was given a benzonatate pill which I took. read indications of what could happen. good or bad idea? slight pain over eyebrow when I cough. just started. nothing bad. loose cough with mucus. really annoying after all this time. help! should I have seen a doctor?

Benzonatate is non narcotic cough suppressant. And it is very safe. Very less side effects. And slight pain over eye brow is not because of drug.
Its been a week, you are coughing and now you also develop mucus, which suggest need for doctor's consultation and some treatment.
You may require antihistamine and anti inflammatory drugs. Antibiotic is also needed to prevent secondary bacterial infection.
Since all these drugs are prescribed medicines, you need to consult doctor and discuss all these.
