What Causes Cough, Nasal Congestion And Watery Eyes After Receiving Pneumococcal Polysaccharide Vaccination?

Please see the answer below
Detailed Answer:
Hi, thank you for posting your query on HealthcareMagic.
I can understand your concern.
Pneumococcal Polysaccharide Vaccine gives protection against different types of pneumococcus bacteria that all cause pneumococcal disease.
The vaccine is inactivated, which means that it does not contain any live pneumococcal bacteria. It cannot cause pneumococcal disease.
Minor reactions after vaccination are common (they may affect more than 1 in 10 people): redness, tenderness and/or swelling at the injection site, and a slightly raised temperature.
Looking at your husband's symptoms, the cause might be allergy. Allergy might have occurred by inhalation of any allergen/dust/or might be due to allergy to the vaccine component. But it is a case of mild allergy.
Signs of a severe allergic reaction can include hives, swelling of the face and throat, difficulty breathing, a fast heartbeat, dizziness, and weakness. These would usually start a few minutes to a few hours after the vaccination.
At present, it does not seem to be serious.
He may find relief by taking Antihistaminic like Cetirizine 10mg once daily, Cough expectorant like Ambroxol (10ml twice daily, you may need prescription for this from your local physician) and Saline nasal drops.
Also do steam inhalation. Avoid cold food and dust. Drink lots of fluids(warm).
If after taking the above measures, if the symptoms are still not improving after 1-2 days, then it would be advisable to consult a Physician .
Hope this answers your question. I would be happy to answer if you have any follow-up questions.
Take care.
