What Causes Cramps And Pain Below Ribs Area While Coughing?

Question: After eating supper last night husband laid down. Developed cramp below left rib area. Cramp subsided within minutes. Now husband has pain in lower left rib area every time he coughs or movies suddenly. Can you help us? Thanks

I have gone through your query and understand your concern.The most likely cause could be gastritis.To help him in a better way please tell me -Is there any nausea/vomiting or burning sensation in chest?
Meanwhile,I would like to treat him with drugs like omeprazole and Tablet.Meftal spas.Get them prescribed by your doctor.

He has no nausea or vomiting. Also no burning sensation.just a pain in his side right below left ribcage. Bowels functions normal. Pain is intense when he coughs. He said the cramp in his stomach felt like a XXXXXXX horse and it went away. He is very uncomfortable it has been over 24 hrs since on set of problems. Not complaining of heartburn

I have gone through your reply carefully and my suggestion would be to have medicine as discussed earlier for gastritis. I am quite hopeful of improvement. Meanwhile if possible keep him fasting.
If the problem persists ultrasound of abdomen is recommended .
Does he take alcohol and smoke?
