default
Posted on Wed, 7 Jun 2017
Question:
Please look at the pics. The one in which i am wearing red is a week back photo. The other pic in which i am wearing dark green is my current status. Can you notice any difference in the pigmentation. As I can see a white patch on the current pic. Will the dark spots fade away or do you think they are permanant.
Will you suggest me hyperfade cream for this pigmented skin as i have heard they work only till you continue, when stop using the dark spots come back. Seeing my skin complexion what do you think overall.
Thank you

Brief Answer:
Pigmentation will lighten, normal appearance usually not possible

Detailed Answer:
Hi
I have reviewed the attached photographs and can appreciate the difference in pigmentation.
According to me you seem to be having either lichen planus pigmentosus or pigmented cosmetic dermatitis.
Both the conditions are quite persistent and resistant to treatment.
The pigmentation can lighten but complete normal appearance of the skin is usually not possible.
You can use hyperfade cream.
It will be effective to some extent in lightening of the dark spots.
Apart from that I would recommend you to apply tacrolimus 0.1 percent ointment on the pigmented areas once daily along with frequent and liberal application of a broad spectrum sunscreen on the entire face and neck during the day time.
Even low dose isotretinoin capsule 20 mg once daily for 3-4 months has been found to be effective in lichen planus pigmentosus.
These are prescription drugs and you need to see the doctor in person to get them.
