Posted on Tue, 21 Nov 2017
Question: 1) yesterday I awoke in the morning & as I got out of bed I felt dizzy for a few minutes and my balance was impaired. This sensation lasted for about 3 minutes. I went to the bathroom and then the sensation went away. The symptoms did not recurr for the rest of the day.

2) today when I awoke in the morning I actually felt as the though the room was spinning and this lasted for about 20 seconds. I got up and I didn't have good balance. Then the sensation went away.

I'm wondering of this is any cause for concern? Thank you.

The symptoms are suggestive of benign paroxysmal positional vertigo.
The symptoms appear and aggravates in a particular position.
This occurs mostly after some viral illness.
You can get evaluated by a physician or a neurologist.
Drugs like cinnarizine, betahistine or dimenhydramine can be taken.

Dr. thank you & I want to give you an update..

1. this morning [3rd day] I awoke and got up from bed slowly & no problems - but then I laid down again & stretched and suddenly the room started spinning again very fast so I tried to stand up but didn't have much balance.

2. So I laid down on the floor flat on my back & the spinning stopped in a few seconds. Then I stayed on the ground in that position for a few minutes

3. then I got up again and the room was not spinning

4. then I wanted to go back to sleep and I went to lie down on my right side on the floor [I usually sleep on right side]. Then I tried to switch to the left side and the room started spinning again. Then I again laid down on the floor flat on my back and the spinning stopped.

5. then I got up from the floor and laid down on my couch on the left side and went to sleep. When I awoke an hour later there was no spinning.

Any thoughts? or suggestions?
