What Causes Daytime Sleepiness While On Adipex And Baclofen?

default
Posted on Sat, 8 Apr 2017
Question: I am a 51 year old female living with MS for the last 27 years .I take Adipex 37.5mg in the morning, as well as Ampyra 10mg, B-12 5000 mcg, Vitamin D 3 5000, Baclofen 10 mg, and Lyrica 100 mg. I've had trouble staying awake during the day. So, I stopped taking the Lyrica in the morning. Some days I would be ok, and some days, I can't keep my eyes open. I also just stopped taking Welbutrin SR 200mg and started taking Pantoprazole 40mg in the morning. Now, I can't keep my eyes open. If I'm sitting still, I'm sleeping. Which one or combination could be causing this? Also, a brand new side effect that I just started experiencing yesterday...within an hour of taking my morning meds, my eyes become almost completely dilated, and my right eye twitches. I'm a mess and I was just wondering your thoughts on what could be causing this, is it dangerous, should I not take some meds together, etc?
I would appreciate your feedback. Thank you. XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
All details explained below.

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for choosing HealthcareMagic for your query,

Lyrica 100mg contains Pregabalin which causes severe drowsiness. Therefore it should always be taken before going to bed at night time.Half life of pregabalin is about 24hours, so i would suggest you to take slow release preperation of pregabalin. These capsules redesigned to release 66% of drug at night and rest 33% in day, hence side effect of dowsiness would be minimised.

Again Bupropion (Wellbutrin) is a major antidepressant and insomnia is one of the maor side effet of this medicine, But in some patients it can cause severe drowsiness and lack of concentrtion.

Suggestion,

Symptoms are very sugestive of Hypothyroidism. Firstly, please get your thyroid profile done. Extreme drowsiness is very rare at 100mg dose of pregabalin. Thyroid dysfunction can be a hidden culprit in your case.

Unusually, dilated pupil is a side effect of Baclofen you are on. Baclofen is a centrally acting skeletal muscle relaxant, baclofen inhibits the influx of calcium at the spinal cord preventing the transmission of excitatory synaptic reflexes causing severe mydriasis. Eye twiching or spasm in eye muscles is also seen in person on Baclofen.

Initially, try to take baclofen at night along with pregabalin and take Adipex in morning. However, if not relieved, do visit your primary consultant for using other options available.

In case of any other query feel free to ask.
Regards.
