Question : Hello Doctor,

My daughter is 10 months old and her urination frequency has reduced. Normally it used to be 8 to 10 times in 12 hours now its reduced to 3.
Is it a matter of concern?

Thanks in advance

Brief Answer:
Nothing to worry - it could be due to ambient temperature

Detailed Answer:
Hi...I understand your concern. As it is April and the ambient temperatures are raising now, the urination will automatically come down. If the baby is active and feeding well and playing around, you need not worry about it.

Hello Doctor ,

Thanks for your inputs.

Her liquid intake has reduced as well it used to be around 500 ml in 12 hours now its reduced to 300 ml. Apart from 500 ml of liquid we used to also give her a cup of rice porridge in noon and cup of ragi wheat porridge morning and night.
From past 4 days she is getting cranky during feeds.
As per her pediac advice we are giving her aristozyme drops 0.8 ml for 3 days. Now she is OK with porridge but liquid intake still remains a concern.

However she is a active kid and gets cranky only during feed.

Adding to above she has nose block issue and I am using saline drops for same.

With all above factors. It is a matter of concern?

Thanks

Brief Answer:
It's not a cause of concern - don't worry

Detailed Answer:
Hi.... it is not a cause of concern. It is normal behaviour in babies of this age group. You need not worry. As she is otherwise active and playful and only when she is feeding she is becoming cranky, it is normal.

Even her intake of water seems to be appropriate, but to counter the rising ambient temperatures in summer you need to go an extra mile to give her more fluids to keep her well hydrated.

What you are doing for blocked nose is also perfect. In this age group we need to use only saline nasal drops.

Hello Doctor,

Thank you for inputs. Her blocked nose issue doesn't seem to reduce. Its been a month she has nose block issue on and off. Her pediatrician put her on antibiotics. And gave her Otrivin pediatric to be used. Is it OK to use Otrivin ?

Brief Answer:
Do not use medicated nasal drops

Detailed Answer:
Hi.... blocked nose can be a long standing issue in certain kids of this age group. This is because of the smaller air passages which are almost 4 times smaller than in adults.

It is not recommended to use medicated nasal drops like Otrivin which contain xylometazoline in this age group. I would recommend only saline nasal drops. I do not recommend medicated nasal drops because of rebound nasal congestion they can cause.
