Question : Hello Doc,

We had sex using withdrawal method 2-3 day after my periods ended.I took i-pill within 12 hours of sex. After that i have not got any bleeding/period or brown discharge till now (been 45 days).
My period was due on 28th Oct , however its 12 Nov now (15 days delay already) and no periods. I took home urine pregnancy test on 4th Nov and result was negative.
Whats going on...please help me....extremely worried doc

Brief Answer:
Side effect of I-pill.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thanks for writing to us about it.

I can understand your concern, though.

The probabilities of pregnancy are less in your case as you had I-pill on time and your pregnancy test is negative.

As it is already 15 days overdue from your expected period date, you can consult a gynecologist and get yourself examined and get your ultrasound pelvis test done to find out the cause of delayed menses.

There are so many reasons other than pregnancy, which cause delayed period like hormonal imbalance (I-pill having a high dosage of hormone in it), stress, exercise, weight changes, thyroid disorder, PCOD etc.

Hope it is useful, feel free to ask more.

Good luck.

Thanks Doctor,

But what if i visit the gynae and i turn out to be pregnant?what are the chances?how reliable are these home tests?

If i am pregnant, what will be the way out to finish the pregnancy? Please suggest. I am very very scared.
I am not observing any symptoms till now (i guess).I feel a mild pain in the abdomen at times though. At times i feel tired too, but am not sure if this is due to my office work schedule or other reasons????

Brief Answer:
Urine pregnancy test almost 97% accurate.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Nice to hear from you again though.

The probabilities of pregnancy are almost negligible in your case.

Home urine pregnancy test almost 97% accurate if performed properly.

Please do not worry and get your ultrasound test performed.

If pregnancy is there (very less chances) than there are some tablets which can terminate it called abortion pills.

Hope it is useful, feel free to ask more.

Good luck.
