Question : Hello, I am on Diabex XR for my insulin resistance and pcos. I have been getting my periods every 21 days but this time I was a little late when I got them. I have stomach and back pain and feeling like l want to throw up. I only had a little reddish and brown blood come down on the 14/05/2016 and then it stopped. I also had taken a pregnancy test a few days before I got them and it was negative. What I would like to know is why is this happening because I have strong pain in my stomach and back but no periods.

The pain in the abdomen and back with no periods can be due to a hormonal imbalance or pregnancy. If the urine test is negative then a hormonal imbalance is more likely.
Other causes of pain like urinary infection and intestinal colic also need to be ruled out. It is best to consult your gynecologist for a proper examination and few investigations like urine test and ultrasound scan to find out the cause. Till then do take an over the counter antispasmodic and see if it helps.

Thankyou for your reply. I also would like to know what happens if I do get pregnant while taking diabe xr? Will I need to stop taking it or will I be given something else to take instead?

There is no harm in getting pregnant while taking Diabex SR. It is a pregnancy category B drug and can be safely taken during pregnancy. In case you get pregnant then it is best to consult your gynecologist and monitor your blood glucose levels. In case the levels increase then insulin injections may be needed to control the blood glucose levels.
