What Causes Delayed Period After Having I Pill?

Question : I took an ipill on 1st of November (within 48 hrs). I had bleeding for 3 continuous days just one week after taking the pill. My periods generally occur on 14th of the month but they have not occurred yet. I have taken pregnancy tests on 21st and 17th of November, both of them were negative. The 10 day (till today) delay of periods is normal or I should be worried? Please suggest me a course of action

Hello,

Thanks for writing to us. Followings are my comments:

1) I-pill gives more than 95% protection against unwanted pregnancy when it is taken within first 24 hrs. Here, chance of pregnancy is extremely RARE and you also get NEGATIVE test results.

2) You got withdrawal bleeding 1 week after taking the pill. It is quite common and natural phenomena. Most women get this type of bleeding.

3) Your period may be delayed more than 2 weeks due to hormonal imbalance and mental stress. You should await another one week to get period naturally.

If you DON'T get your period by this time, I suggest you to consult with local doctor to induce period with Progesterone pill.
