Brief Answer:
Need not to worry about his abilities, this is not abnormal.

Detailed Answer:
Hello xxxxxx,
Thank you for asking question on health care magic.

Usually baby boys starts to speak little later than girl babies.

Only child and the child exposed to multiple languages frequently learn to speak late. There is nothing abnormal in that.

Some children learn to speak as late as 3 years even!!

And hence you need not to worry about his abilities and at present there is no treatment required for it.Just wait and watch for few months, may be he will start to speak soon.

However, you can do the following which might help him to speak.

1. Talk to him frequently in your local or mother tongue or the language you mostly use at your home with your family members.

2 Get thyroid function tests done to rule out any thyroid issue although it is very unlikely.

3. No need to test for hearing as you said he has good sense of hearing and can respond to distance sounds.

4 Use one language all the time (preferably mother tongue) by all care givers.

5 Use recorded kid’s nursery rhymes. In video or DVDs and let him see and listen.

6.If he mixes with more number of children about his age or more he picks up language quickly.

Hope this answer will help you. Please feel free to ask any more queries.
