What Causes Depersonalization And Intrusive Thoughts?

default
Posted on Tue, 20 Dec 2016
Question: Age 23
Gender :Male
Please answer me.
Why do I feel so detached and depersonalized that I feel like my own close family are like strangers to me? It's so scary.. I'm so used to feeling connected to them and talking and laughing, now it feels like it's hard to have a real deep conversation with them because they feel like someone I just met or don't have connection to that much.. Why???? That'd my own family?? Plus I have anxiety, intrusive thoughts.. I was told 5-htp vitamins can help me with these symptoms, or Magnesium vitamins.. Why do I feel detached from how I used to know my family and myself????? Please answer.. I have asked many other questions on here.. That I pay money a month to ask.. And lots of my questions have still not been answered yet.. Much thanks. In advance

Brief Answer:
Consultation

Detailed Answer:
Hello, and thanks for your question.

What you are describing is generalized anxiety with derealization, depersonalization, and intrusive thoughts. This needs treatment. There are two options, best to do both: an SSRI medication like escitalopram or sertraline, and cognitive behavioral psychotherapy. These treatments, individually or together, will help alleviate these symptoms over the course of several weeks.
