Brief Answer: watch for sign of dehydration Detailed Answer: Namasthe Welcome to Healthcare-Magic Greetings of the day Dear Mr XXXXXXX Being a Parent myself I understand your concern and apprehension. As the child is exclusively on breast feeding there is no cause for concern. Babies have their own stool frequency and stool frequency of twice a day is acceptable. Normally breast milk stools are semi solid and yellow is colour with white granules/ particles. If the following criteria are fulfilled there is no cause for concern 1. Accepting feeds well 2. Urine output adequate 3. Sleeps well after feeds 4. Tongue and oral mucosa moist Babies usually strain and are irritable while passing stool. I would also suggest you to look at the Perianal region for any redness or diaper rash which could be making the baby irritable. If the stools are not very much watery, frequency is not more than 4 per day, no signs of dehydration then there is no cause for concern. Continue giving breastfeeding, I would also suggest also the following 1. Syrup Colimex 0.4ml twice daily 2. Syrup Neutrolin B 1.5 ml once a day Also do not be bothered about the weight. Babies loose around 10 percent of body weight during first 10 days of life and after which they gain 30 gms per day from 14 th day of life . Do get back to me if you need any further assistance, will be glad to assist you. Take care Best Regards Dr Deepak Kishore MBBS, MS, MCH Consultant Pediatric Surgeon
