Question : I have been testing my blood sugar because of pre diabetes diagnosis and a new diet for the last 2 months . My readings have always been within 98 to 160 range . I ate something yesterday and have had gas and diarrhea all day . And of course I haven't eaten much as a result Today for the first time since I've been testing , I saw my first reading over 200 . ( 210 ) to be exact . Did my body just change or does my sickness have something to do with it ?
Brief Answer:
may be due to body's stress response
Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic
Steroids are released in the body as part of our stress response. Stress response can occur with any infection.
Steroid cause an increase in blood sugar so it is possible that your illness caused the stress response which then caused the increase in blood sugar.
It would be best rechecked when you are doing better. It can be done after you have been well for at least 2 days
It is important to remember to test at the correct times eg fasting blood sugars or 2 hours after a meal.
Fasting prediabetes is 100 to 126, 2 hour post eating prediabetes is 140 to 200.
I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions
