Question : Hi, i have recently had some health issues since starting taking somac 40mg for refux issue. After i started taking it i got bad dirrhea with stomach cramps and then started to also get mucus and little specks of blood within stool. A week later after stopping these meds i got an outbreak of hives and was taking prednisolone, zantac and anti histamine medication for the hives. I had a blood test for full blood count which was normal and an allergy blood test and also auto immune test. Ultimately im just wondering if being on those medications, having the hives and or having colitis (gastro specialist thinks i may have colitis and will do a colonoscopy to confirm) can make an auto immunt blood test slighlty higher?

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query and an elucidate history.
To recapitulate: Female/31 - health issues since starting Somac (Pantoprazole) 40 for reflux - diarrhea - cramps - mucus with specks of blood in stool - Gastro thinks Colitis - a week after stopping these medicines - got an outbreak of hives - Perdnisolone, Zantac and antihistamine - blood tests - N - ANA 160 ....

Your ANA titre is 160 and the range shows <160, that means it is at the highest level or normal. Gastrointestinal diseases like Colitis can show such levels and since you have colitis, ANA of this level is expected hence I think nothing to worry about.

I hope, this answers your query.
