Question: hi I am a 52 year old . I have lifted weights years since I was 15 years old. I would like lose some weight since I am 290. I do cardo 3 times a week, with weight training a couple times a week. I keep my calories around 1250 to 1400 a day. I walk around 8000 steps a day, with the treadmill over 10000.

I can hardly drop a few pounds, like to get down to 250. I am 6ft 1 . I wear the same size pants for the last 10y ears. any suggestions?

Brief Answer:
Need endurance and persistence. Slow and steady.

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for asking

I read your question and i understand your concern. Age of 52 and height of 6 feet 1 inches with weight of 290 pounds make the body mass index of 38 which is morbid obesity. Added to it , lifting heavy weights altogether pose great risk to your back, spine and may weight bearing joints and should thus be avoided.

Losing weight is a challenge and losing it slowly and gradually up to 30 pounds in 12 weeks and then maintenance for another 12 weeks followed by 30 pounds more in 12 weeks time frame and going on. Exercise and reducing caloric intake are two mainstay of therapies to lose weight. No rocket science no magic potion can help.

Increase exercises time to increase calories consumption, reduce calories intake, Drink 500 ml of cold water before every meal to kill hunger. Diets are all overrated, no matter what you eat, eat it in less amount that too mostly protein diet. Sign up to an FDA approved weight loss program if you need a little help and avoid these cheap publicity stunts all around internet claiming to do wonders with the weight. All you need to do is bring the weight to around 200 pounds over a time frame of 2 years. If you find it difficult to lose weight, get evaluated for some causes of weight gain, and consider bariatric surgery for losing some. It will help. You can do it with persistent efforts and compliance with your schedule. Its tough but not impossible.

I hope it helps. Take good care of yourself and dont forget to close the discussion please.

I Know my body fat, as I have used the fat calipers. My fat Index is around 18 percent. 57 inch chest ,20 1/2 arms cold. At 250 I could be down to around 15 I would hope . I just like to lose some muscle mass. At 290 I can still run the mile in under 12 minutes. My joints feel great and so does my back. I am just looking for a way to drop some pounds

Brief Answer:
Avoid strenuous work out

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for getting back to me

As you mentioned muscle bulk, its good then. Losing fats is difficult. Losing proteins and muscle bulk is not. All you need to do is avoid lifting heavy weights and muscles will go into atrophy of disuse and the bulk will subside. Its all or none phenomenon. Use or no use. Body muscle bulk adjusts to that. You lifting heavy weights have likely caused it.

I hope it helps.
