Brief Answer:
Indication for surgical removal of tonsils

Detailed Answer:
Hello sir and welcome.

Thank you for writing to us.

I have gone through your query with diligence and would like you to know that I am here to help. You have chronic tonsillitis which can be caused by either a bacterial or viral cause, which in majority of cases can be treated with medications. The tonsils seem mostly useless to us, but play an important role in providing the human body with immunity. There although are certain indication for tonsil removal and include situations like failure of response to medications, difficulty to swallow, difficulty in breathing, persistent tonsillitis, etc.

The surgical procedure involving the removal of the tonsils is called tonsillectomy and is not considered a serious procedure at all. It is usually conducted on children, but can easily be conducted on adults as well. There are different techniques employed for tonsillectomy and the most suitable one will be selected for you sir.

I would urge you to visit an ENT (ear, nose, throat) surgeon who should be able to discuss things with you in a more elaborate manner and schedule surgery for you at your most convenient time. I hope you understand why surgery is required in your case, and wish you lots of luck. Please feel free to write back to me for any further clarifications, I am always here to help.

Best wishes.

I started wearing insertable ear plugs a few years ago at my job and that's when my problems seemed to start. My ears now have fluid drainage and the inner ear canals itch almost constantly. I then made the mistake of using a cotton swab to reach the itching area. I stopped using the ear plugs last week and I also no longer stick anything in my ears. Since then, the fluid drainage has stopped and my ears don't itch as much. I know the sinuses are all tied in with the rest of the head and throat and I'm hoping there will be a chain reaction healing. What do you think? The last time this happened I took antibiotics and my tonsils returned to normal, but my doctor will no longer prescribe them without a visit. Is there a non prescription alternative? Thank you for all your help and God Bless, XXXX

Brief Answer:
A prescription from me will not be valid in the US of A

Detailed Answer:
Hello once again XXXXXXX

I am sure you understood the cause for your infection being recurrent, if not this is why:

Using ear plugs prevents the circulation (exchange of air from the inner canals to the external environment) resulting in a stagnation of air inside. Air has all sorts of micro-organisms that if stagnant (i.e. lack of circulation) can cause an infection. The use of a q-tip can also introduce infection-causing organisms to a particular region.

So with both these causes prevented, I am sure the infection should not be recurrent. If at all you have the prescription from the last time, then you can use the same one to get the medications (as the same drugs can be used). If at all you do not, then please try to gain access to a pharmacy and request for:

Amoxicillin 250 mg - 20 tablets (to be taken twice a day)

or

Erythromycin 250 mg - 20 tablets (to be taken twice a day)

The only reason why I suggest the above is because you currently reside in the USA, and a prescription from me will not be valid in the USA, where the pharmacy will not accept it. So either you try the options listed above, or visit your doctor for a prescription sir.

I hope you find my response both helpful and informative. Please feel free to write back to me for any further clarifications, I would be more than happy to help.

Best wishes.
