What Causes Difficulty In Urinating Even After Sufficient Fluid Intake?

default
Posted on Tue, 25 Aug 2015
Question: I have difficulty urinating in the day time. I drink a lot but don't urinate much. In the evening I start urinating frequently in large quantities . Had bladder scans normal, scope up the ureatha . prostate and bladder show no signs of any blockage or problem. I will have discomfort in the bladder in daytime when I can't urinate enough.. I drink a lot of fluids. I get up maybe twice at night. in the morning when I wake up I urinate full force and a lot, then after that even tho I drink a lot during the day I still don't urinate much. Most of the time I don't even feel loke I need to urinate. Sometimes I will have ugentcies. . In the daytime I try to urinate but can't much without pressing on my bladder till I feel like need to urinate. I know it is partly a mental problem. it happens every day then in the evening I am OK .I seem to panic because I don't feel I am not urinating enough..How long should I waite before I try to urinate..

Brief Answer:
Urodynamic test is needed.

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXXXX and welcome to HCM.
As an Urologist, i can understand your concern fully.
After radiation treatment for prostate cancer, many people develop some narrowing in the prostatic part of urinary tube.
The test you need, to verify the way you pass urine, is a Flow rate test(flowmetry). It's part of an urodynamic test.
That will confirm, if your stream is coming with normal pressure or it's reduced.
If it's very poor stream, you may again go into a retention episode.
That's the reason, you should not stop Flowmax. But,you may need a different medicine, after checking this result, so that you can pass urine with more force and prevent further narrowing of the tube(urethra). Avoid pressing on the bladder area to pass urine. An urodynamic test, will also show if the the bladder muscle tone is normal. Avoid drinking more than 8-10 glasses of liquids daily.
Wish you well. You may contact me with the urodynamic test reports.

Do the urodynamic test.

Hello again.
Your anxiety is understandable.
As i said earlier, an objective assessment of the way you're passing urine, is done by an urodynamic test.
Further treatment will be best advised after seeing the reports.

Brief Answer:
You're on right track.

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX
Pressing on the bladder so much, is a sign that external pressure is needed, to expel urine. The reason why that's needed, can be assessed very accurately, by an urodynamic test.
This test is done at all major hospitals, where an Urologist department is there.
Hope you're checking your PSA once a year.
You've done the right thing, to clear your doubts. Nothing is messed up.
You're welcome to get back, with the reports.
