What Causes Discharge At Penis Tip When Suffering From Epididimal Cyst?

default
Posted on Wed, 24 Sep 2014
Question: Hi, I'm a 27 year old male and I have what the doctor thinks is a epididimal cyst based on altrasound and blood and urine tests have come up negative. I have had it for a couple of months. It doesn't hurt but when I pee the end of the penis opens a little and I get a little extra discharge of pee at the end. Do you think this is a problem and how urgent is it? Will it eventually go away on it's own?

Brief Answer:
Epididymal cyst is not worrisome.

Detailed Answer:
Good day and thank you for being with healthcare magic!

Epididymal cyst are of no clinical consequence and it doesn't usually cause any symptoms and it is 90% benign (not cancerous) of the time. It doesn't cause pain on urination and discharge at the tip of the penis.

If your urinalysis is normal and urine and urethral discharge cultures were already taken and all came out negative then It is safe to say that you don't have infection or any problem that is urgent. If no cultures have done then I would advise you to get urine and urethral discharge cultures since it is the best way to diagnose infection.

Epididymal cyst can go away on its own or may grow very very slowly and is not a cause for worry.

Ok thankyou,
That is helpful. A urine sample and blood test were taken but no urethral discharge culture was taken with a cotton swab. Should I get this done? Can it be infected without getting an STI? If it is infected what are the risks. If it is infected will it go away without treatment?

Brief Answer:
Will not go away if infected unless treated.

Detailed Answer:

Good Day!

To clarify your discharge in your penis is that urine or thick fluid coming out? If it is thick fluid then you need to get a culture.

The most common cause of urethral discharge is still STI. Although rarely there are organisms that can cause urethral discharge even without sexual transmission but like I said is extremely rare.

Risk factors to get an STI is smoking, increase number of sexual partners, and unprotected sex.

Possible complications of unchecked urinary infection and urethritis would be involvement of the testis (orchitis) and possibly urethral stricture (scarring of the passage of the urine causing obstruction) and of course the possibility of transmission of the organisms to your partners.

If you have a pathogenic organism in your body then the chances that it would go away on its own is slim and you might need to get treated.

The discharge is only urine. It only happens when I urinate because the end of the penis stays open just after I urinate causing a little extra urine to run out. Just after I started taking the antibiotics I got a very small rash on the knob but this went away after a couple of days. The cyst was a little painful for the first couple of weeks but I'm not getting any pain or discomfort now just more concerned than anything. The cyst has got a little bigger though but that could just be from physical activity. I'm overseas for work ATM, I get back in January. It would be good if I could hold off till then till I get it checked out again. I'm thinking of monitoring it and seeing if it gets any worse. I just don't want to have anything perminant that can be passed on to partners.

Brief Answer:
You can safely wait until XXXXXXX

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for the information you have provided.

Since your discharge only contains urine then I believe it is safe for you and your partner not to transmit any STI since you don't seem to harbor one. I also believe you can safely wait until you can go back to your home country and get a comprehensive examination without any clinical consequence
