default
Posted on Tue, 18 Aug 2015
Question: Hello,
About 4 months ago my mother start feeling some discomfort in her throat. She was noticing some discomfort while speaking. She ignored thinking it's due to cole. But recently doctor told it's because of a tumor and recommended to get it tested. She got the test report yesterday which I attached here. Seems she developed and tumor/cyst. Can you please review and let me know what's the treatment. Is there any reason to be afraid of, or how common it is and how long she needs for healing? Please note that blood sugar (approx. 130-140).

Thanks in advance.

Brief Answer:
This is benign condition. No reason to be worried.

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Thank you for the query.

Your mother suffers from benign thyroid cysts/tumors. There is no evidence of cancer so there is no need to be worried. However she can not leave it alone either. As the cyst in left lobe is quite large and she has symptoms caused by thyroid compression to airwaves, surgical removal of the thyroid should be considered.
This condition is quite common. Thyroid removal is also common procedure. Healing after this procedure takes a week or two. After thyroid removal, thyroid hormones supplementation will be necessary.

I suggest her to consult endocrinologist as the first step.

Hope this will help. Feel free to ask further questions.
Regards.
