What Causes Disorientation After Waking Up In A Diabetic?

Question: My husband woke from a nap the afternoon feeling a bit disoriented. He rested a while then got up feeling woobly and walking oddly. I checked his blood sugar, he is diabetic, and it was 262, his blood pressure l32/73 but his heart rate has been 112 and over the last 10 minutes. I have checked it three times during that period. Should I take him to the emergency room?
Brief Answer:
yes
Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic
Yes, he should be taken to the hospital for assessment with the prolonged increased pulse rate if there is no obvious cause (eg fever or infection ).
The blood sugar is increased but only mildly so, not enough to cause the increased pulse rate.
Though there is no history of chest pain, a lung or heart related cause would need to be ruled out if the symptoms continue.
This would be done by examination, blood tests ( eg troponin), EKG and chest x ray
If the more serious causes can be excluded then other causes would be considered
I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions
