Question : Yesterday, while at the gym (which I have been going to for a year) I was balancing on the bosu and using light weights when I began to become disoriented. I thought something like: what machine was I just on? Did I dream that machine? What do I do now? Is this a dream? I stood there and saw two trainers who I know well. I walked over to them and said, I think I don't know if I'm dreaming or awake! I sat down. One took my pulse which was fine. The other got me two cups of Gaiter Aid. I drank that and felt better. They said I was probably low on electrolytes. It's super hot here in PHX and I did do pool deck work outside around 7 AM This happened around 10:30 AM. I felt better and got back to my exercising but then decided to just drink my protein shake and go home and rest and drink more water too. Today I feel better and I was back at the gym. I spoke to two nurses who work out there and they both instantly said that it sounded like a TIA. What is my next step? I am 67, female. thanks. XXXXXX

Brief Answer:
Not sure if this could represent a TIA!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thanks for this query.

These symptoms are not typical of TIA. TIA needs a documented neurological deficit that rapidly recovers within 24hours. You have not mentioned this. Getting some what disoriented, tired and relieved by fluids intake would make this very unlikely.

If you had been working out for sometime before this happened, then it was probably due to low fluids and electrolytes imbalance. If that were not the case, observing for similar symptoms would help in defining the problem and figuring out what the next step is.

In all, unlikely to be TIA. More to do with fluids and electrolyte imbalance. For how long had you been in the gym before this happened?

Hope this helps. I wish you well. Thank you so much for using our services and do feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be.
