Posted on Wed, 22 Mar 2017
Question: I did drink 1/2 glass of wine right before I went to lie down to bed around midnight with the intention it will help me to sleep fast and it did. I was knocked out not even a minute after I took it but I woke up around 3AM in the morning, my body was hot, I had a dizziness like I had a sea sick, I almost fall down to the floor when I tried to go to the bathroom and I went with the help of my family. I drank some alkaline water and took some deep breath and fall back to sleep around 5AM and woke up around 8am and the dizziness was gone but I still feel a little light headache, Please let me know what's going with me. I hardly drink any wine, just a small zip in ocassion.

Detailed Answer:
I read your question carefully and I understand your concern.

Given the relationship to consumption of wine and the fact that you feel better now the most likely cause was alcohol related. Of course one would argue that 1/2 glass is too little, it wouldn't cause any issues with most individuals. However there are differences in metabolism in different people. In particular the low levels of an enzyme called aldehyde dehydrogenase are often blamed for feeling adverse effects such as facial flushing and dizziness even in small dosages.

Other possibilities would include an inner ear issue, a metabolic issue such as low glucose or electrolyte abnormalities or heart arrhythmia. So if symptoms reappear without alcohol as a triggering factor you should get checked, have an EKG and some blood tests. But if you are improving that probably won't be necessary.
