Brief Answer:
Seems to be AOM due to URTI, which is very common.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for your query.

1. I am assuming that your daughter is a child.

2. If she has had a recent Upper Respiratory Tract Infection (URTI), then her ear pain and dizziness is related to this and the most common diagnosis is an Acute Otitis Media (AOM).

3. You should get her eardrums examined. If they are congested or bulging, the diagnosis is confirmed. I am also assuming that she is under medication. If that is the case, she should recover in about a week to 10 days.

4. The Eustachian tube that connects the ear to the nose is shorter, wider and more horizontal than in an adult. Hence URTI passes easily to the ear or while sneezing and coughing, infected mucus is forced into the middle ear. This is common. She requires rest, anti-allergic decongestants, mucolytics, anti-inflammatory medication, antibiotics, steam inhalation. Ear drops are required only if the pain has subsided due to perforation of the eardrum.

5. Do write back if the dizziness or ear pain persists.

I hope that I have answered your query. If you have any more questions I will be available to answer them.

Regards.

Brief Answer:
AOM is common. Enlarged adenoids are usually the cause.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for writing back.

1. Such ear infections (AOM) are very common in childhood.

2. She should have a complete recovery.

3. Recurrent AOM is usually caused by enlarged adenoids. Get an X-ray Skull lateral view to look for for adenoid hypertrophy done.

Wishing her a speedy recovery.

Regards.
